From Scratch to finished Oil Painting
During the course, you will learn the process of large format, multi-layered oil painting.
Together we explore the possibilities of oil painting and start with a short overview of the technique and look at examples in the history of painting.
We stretch our canvas and learn about suitable primers. We deal with pigments and binders and painting materials such as casein, egg tempera, and acrylic. We mix our colours and prepare a functional palette.
We learn the step-by-step process of the multi-layered painting, starting with initial sketches, subsequent detailed sketches, and corresponding first colour drafts. Doing so we can freely associate and draw from various sources.
During the course, we have the possibility to include other techniques and materials such as drypoint or mono printing, and/or collage in the process of creating the image.
The technique of multi-layered oil painting is perfectly suited to adapt to individual needs and to slowly building up the colour.
The process described above can be varied and shortened.
A starter pack for the 1st date will be provided, which includes sketching paper, some pigments, acrylic and casein binders, pens, and charcoal.
A wooden frame of 24 x 30 cm with cotton canvas, a small selection of sketching paper and oil paints with a special binder for 3 small-format monoprints will also be provided and are included in the price.
There is the possibility to purchase further materials, such as larger stretcher frames, printing papers, pigments, oil paints for the course at the studio. Price on request.
